Morning Transportation to Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens

Conference team members will be in the ANdAZ hotel lobby 15 minutes before each trolley departure time. Trolleys cannot wait at the stop. If you are late, you will need to catch a later trolley.

  • Dr.?Stan Deaton?is the Senior Historian and the Dr. Elaine B. Andrews Distinguished Historian at the Georgia Historical Society (GHS). He is the Emmy-winning writer and host of?Today in Georgia History, jointly produced for TV and radio by GHS and Georgia Public Broadcasting. Dr.?Deaton?is a public speaker, writer, teacher, and lecturer. He serves as the managing editor of the?Georgia Historical Quarterly.

11:00 AM|Celebrating History: The Garden’s History

  • Melanie J. Ford, Director of Construction, University of Georgia Office of the University Architects, will share the fascinating story of the Coastal Georgia Botanical Garden, site for the 2022 Extension Master Gardener National Coordinators’ Conference. Melanie's Director?responsibilities are varied and include general oversight of capital construction projects and major renovations on 海角官方首页’s campus. Melanie received a Bachelor of Science in Building Science at Auburn University, worked in the private sector as a general contractor for twenty years and then joined the 海角官方首页 team in 2007. She earned a Master’s in Historic Preservation from 海角官方首页 in 2016 while working full-time. She is currently still working full-time and also pursuing a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and anticipates graduating in spring 2024. Melanie is currently President of the Georgia chapter of COAA and President of the Athens Area Women in Construction.

Like any good birthday party, gifts are in order! Be sure to bring an item for the celebration – white elephant style!
